Prof. Dr. Gürer Gülsevin

Prof. Dr. Gürer Gülsevin was born in 1961 in Afyonkarahisar. He finished primary, secondary, and high school in Ankara. He graduated from Ankara University, Faculty of Language, History and Geography, the Department of Turkish Language and Literature in 1983. He was appointed as a research assistant at İnönü University, the Department of Turkish Language and Literature in 1983. He got his M.A degree in 1987 and Ph.D. degree in 1989 from the same university. He was appointed as assistant professor at İnönü University in 1989. He transferred to Afyon Kocatepe University, Faculty of Science and Literature of Uşak in 1993. He became associate professor in 1995. In 2001, he became a professor at Afyon Kocatepe University, Faculty of Science and Literature of Uşak, and he was appointed as founding dean to the same faculty. He transferred to Ege University, Institute of Turkish World Studies, the department of “Turkish Language and Dialects”. He studies comparatively historical and living Turkish dialects.

He has published books, many articles in international and national journals, papers presented in congresses held in Turkey and abroad, as well as projects carried out and completed by TUBITAK and universities.

He worked as an editor in many international journals.

He has 22 doctorate and 38 master’s thesis advisors that he has managed and completed so far. He also conducts doctoral advisory as a foreign advisor at various universities in Kazakhstan.

He continues his duties as a Principal Member of the Turkish Culture Research Institute and a Member of the Advisory Board of Yunus Emre Institution.

He was a member of the Scientific Board of the Turkish Language Association in 2013-2016. He is still a faculty member at Ege University, Institute of Turkic World Studies. Prof. Dr. Gülsevin has been serving as the President of the Turkish Language Association since 2018.
