September 9, 1922- THE LIBERATION OF İZMİR FROM ENEMY OCCUPATION

As the Supreme Council, we celebrate the 102nd Anniversary of the Liberation of Izmir from the enemy occupation. Following the Great Offensive, which began on August 26, 1922, the Turkish army reached Izmir through a subsequent pursuit operation, ending the Greek occupation on September 9, 1922. We respectfully, gratefully, and with reverence commemorate Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and the heroes of the National Struggle.

“I recall with respect and admiration the effort and sacrifice shown by the armies in reaching the goal I first set for the Mediterranean. I express my sincere thanks and congratulations to my esteemed comrades, who were the true driving force behind this great victory. I have full confidence that the armies will display the same determination and dedication in achieving future objectives that may be set before them.” Mustafa Kemal Atatürk
